I've had Bose wave radios for about twenty years and at present have four -- almost one for each room. One is ancient, but still going. I'm looking for another one. I see the latest has no controls on the radio itself. What was Bose thinking? Imagine having to rely on the teensy-weensy remote (lose-able, dog-chewable) to make it work.

When my family, husband, twin daughters and me, decided to move from Montreal to Austin, we had some major decisions to make. What to take, what to sell. We had a couple top flight stereo systems, a 5.1 surround sound system to beat the band, my camera gear, -- I had "L" everything, three bodies and lots of other terrific lenses -- and a decade's worth of pretty nice stuff that we'd accumulated. We were pretty well off, but not rich, not even upper middle class. This move was a big deal for us. My husband had a new job, but what about me? I was losing a pretty good income.

But Austin, what a wonderful city. And it's warm. We decided to go for it, so we sold everything we could, reaped a small fortune on eBay. So bye bye, beautiful sounding music, bye bye my cameras and the gear I loved.

That was a couple years ago and we're doing okay now, better than okay. We have back a new big screen TV, a new surround sound system, but we still have beaucoup de rooms that need good music and on a THELMA AND LOUISE type driving trip with my friend Katie I discovered the Bose Wave Radio System. We stopped at the outlet stores at Woodburn, a city south of Portland, Oregon and when I walked into the Bose store I was blown away. I listened to everything and when I got back to Houston I made some major purchases, it's nice to have some money again.

I have this radio in my dark room. Usually when I go in there to work, it's dark, duh. Okay, so I've got this red light in there, but you know what I mean, you can't exactly read the labels on your CDs, so I opted for the Wave Radio instead of the Wave Music System with the CD player. There's an audio input on the back of the machine and I plug my iPod into it with the music set on random play and then I thoroughly enjoy the hours I spend in there. Music courses through the room, runs through me as I sing along while I work. I love the bass, not too much, not too little. I love the highs. I love this radio.

After much debate about whether to purchase the Wave system, I finally went on and did it. I have read, and re-read reviews. Both sides of the spectrum. I have gone into the local Bose store to listen to it. And after about a year, I dove in and did it. It arrived less than one week after I placed the order on Amazon.com. I purchased the iPod connect along with the radio, because primarily I listen to my iPod. I do not really listen to CD's anymore, so I figured this would be the best option for me.

Set up was a breeze. I added the extra step with the iPod connect, but you simply plug in the power, then plug the 3.5mm into the aux in port behind the radio, and boom, you're ready to listen to your iPod. I was very excited for this, because I am a huge fan of the Pandora App, so I let that stream through my radio, and I must say, it truly sounds amazing. I am a huge fan of Bose. For some reason, the topic of Bose is very black and white. Either people love it, or they have absolute disdain for the brand. I see it as being simple. I love the soft, realistic sound that Bose produces. I have multiple products that Bose offers. And that is my opinion on the sound. But I favor more relaxed, folk type music, and Bose reproduces a very accurate sound, which suits me just fine.

Last week I also received the on-ear headphones for my birthday, and I listen to those in my bed before I sleep, and every night I am lulled by the smooth sound that they produce.

To wrap everything up, I would strongly recommend this product to a serious music listener that enjoys the sound of music, and not necessary a catchy beat. To the listener that wants to turn on a simple device, and relax. It fits nicely on a shelf beneath my TV. What is also a nice feature is that you barely notice it visually, but when turned on, the entire room is filled with its amazing sound.

This product is a joke. Bose is nothing more than a marketing hype. The speakers are highly inaccurate and the so called great bass is just the product of huge equalization.

Next, I challenge you to find an audio magazine that rates this product as good sounding and worth the money. It simply won't happen. The drivers they use in these radios are no better than the cheapest radio at walmart.

Anyone who dares to put this radio in their house or office is simply suggesting to the rest of the informed world that they do not review before they shop, nor do they have any knowledge about audio what so ever.

Sure it sounds nice, but why after spending $350 on a RADIO, to only include a flimsy remote controller the size of a credit card with no controls on the unit itself is a big miss. Right now, I've lost my remote, not hard to do since it's miniscule and I can use the radio. Problem, well my alarm is set, so it does go off at 6:45 am, but in order to turn it off, I need to get out of bed and unplug the unit.

All this for $350. I could have gone to radio shack to get one for $10...avoid..

This is a great portable travel clock, I travel for a living and was looking for a travel alarm clock RADIO and this is the ONLY one I found. I am in Europe and Asia often and I like to listen to local music in my hotel rooms. Sometimes the reception is iffy and I suggest using the BuZZ function for your alarm. The batteries last long in this but watch out for the battery 'door' which can sometimes come off in your bag. I 've taped mine on the back but as I said I travel a whole Heck of a lot and use it every time. Overall I like the price for the quality and would recommend it over one without a radio. I've even requested another for Christmas as I know I'll wear it out or lose it someday and that way, I'll have another one ready to go!

I have a previous version of this Timex travel alarm clock (sans radio) and loved it. This one I'm not so keen about. The drawbacks to me are 1) the light and (2) the on/off switch. The good part about the light is that it stays off unless you manually press a button to turn it on, and it turns off when you release the button. The problem is that the light is a blaring amber light that really does nothing to help you see the time. It basically just creates a blur. The light doesn't come from behind the digital number display, it's more like a mini-beacon that shines onto the numbers--very ineffective for anything except a mini-flashlight. Would have been much better to have been back-lit in a nice blue. The second big problem for me is the switch that makes the alarm shut off--it's on the side of the left side panel of the bottom portion of the clock--very difficult to find when you're trying to get the danged alarm to shut off. It's the same button that turns on the radio. Speaking of radio, you get what you would expect--a radio without decent sound. In this day and age of excellent sound, it's almost too annoying to listen to, except in a dire emergency. The dial doesns't seem to pick up many stations.

If I was seriously travelling on business I'd get something a little higher end. The radio works rather well on the strongest local stations, but there is no function that lets you go to sleep listening to the radio. No "sleep switch" that a lot of clock radios have. The radio is listenable, but I'd never want to listen to it for more than an hour or so.

The way this has messed up for me is that if you set "time set" switch to "alarm", and then set the alarm time using the hour and minute buttons, and then forget to move the time set switch back to the middle between time set and hour set, the alarm will not go off. I slept through alarms a few times before I figured that out. Wouldn't want to mess this up on a business trip.

Also, the minute button is starting to not work and it's getting harder to set the time because I have to push the minute button so much.

So, I'd only recommend it for "travel" within your own house, like when your spouse is wheezing, snoring, or coughing all night and you want to sleep in another room, and you don't have anything really important you need to be there for early the next morning.

I bought this as a travel clock radio. However, when you go to bed at night you cannot have the radio on if you wish to set the alarm! It has one sliding switch which operates both the radio and alarm. While the radio works okay for such a small item and the alarm seems dependable, it is not that useful if you cannot use both together.

I own lots of radios (see my other reviews) and I had high hopes for this- Eton/Grundig have excellent reputations and I like some of their higher end units. This is very disappointing.

The biggest problem is that it doesn't stay tuned (a digital display doesn't mean digital tuning) rendering it functionally useless. If your station is super strong and it doesn't matter if it drifts from, say, 105.3 - 105.9 when you're trying to listen to 105.5 maybe it'll be ok for you. Then again, if your station is that strong, you could buy a $10 no-name radio. The size is nice, as is the very long extendable antenna. However, the name brand, nice list of features, flashy colors, and fancy packaging can't mask that this is essentially a cheap cheap radio not worth the shipping charges (I got mine with the remains of an an LL Bean gift card or It'd be shipped back).

This a good radio. I bought this radio so I could pick up stations easily anywhere I go and on my last trip it picked up stations pretty good, with a lot less static than most radios. it`s a small radio with a big sound. It has a large antenna. it picks up some shortwave stations but not a whole lot, if you want a good sw radio I suggest you go with a bigger radio. The AM/FM stations come in very well.

I just bought this at Bed Bath and Beyond for 9.99. It seemed to be just what I was looking for for portability and options. I could not even get it to come on. I opened the battery compartment and fiddled around with the battery for 30 minutes and I finally actually heard a beep and saw the display come on for like 1/2 a second. Apparently the battery does not fit well enough and snug enough to power the clock. I was disappointed and am returning it tomorrow. I will buy another product. I looked up these reviews to see if maybe it was just the one I had that didn't work right but after reading these reviews, I can see that wasn't the case. Don't waste your money and your time to return it.

Really slick little clock, until you actually try to use all the features. Returning it to be repaired or replaced would cost me $5.95 s/h, and since I paid only $8 for it to begin with....

I purchased this clock in 2004, and it worked for about a year. I loved it. It had a tiny alarm not a blaring annoying one that will put you in a bad mood. It was sleek and slim, and it told the time. Thats really all i needed. It was great for college, and i would recommend it to anyone who isn't comatose when they sleep.

I really liked the slim design of this as my everyday alarm clock, but it progressively broke. I liked the unlighted digtal display (since i prefer my bedroom dark at night), large snooze button and easy to program settings, and the alarm was not too annoying (excessively loud and abrasive sounding alarms make me crabby in the morning). However, after a while, the display was difficult to read except at particular angles, the manual backlight to see the display in the dark broke after 6 months and the whole alarm completely stopped working after a little more than a year (right after i went out a bought a new battery). However, i have to admit i am still considering buying this again...

I have owned 4 of these. And I keep buying more as needed. I keep one at work and one at home. Nice and compact. Takes a special round flat battery easily available at Walmart. May be a little pricey but it is slim and works fine. Shows the temperature day date and month. I dropped one out of my top pocket hit the tile foor it broke so dont use this clock as a hammer. Has a snooze on it rings slow at first then faster if you don't wake up. The lighted dial is not so great stays on for a half of a second - if its dark you can't hardly use the light to set the time or alarm light only good to check the time... its a button you press. May be a little pricey but its easily carried in pocket and nice and slim. Tape the battery compartment shut as needed I had one wherein the battery compartment would come open. Battery lasts a long time. I have owned 4 cause lost one and broke one and one wore out. When the numbers and stuff start freaking out don't throw it away like I did go buy a battery.. Oh, also has a military time display either civilian or military.

I purchased this product based on reviews, and I was not disappointed. This alarm clock/docking station has amazing sound. You can fall asleep to several different sound sources, including 4 built-in nature sounds, and then wake to your iPod or other source at a different volume. I especially love that you can set the volume of the alarm, so the soft music or nature sounds that you fall asleep to can be at a low volume and then the alarm can be at a higher volume that will reliably wake me up. It does start with a lower volume and then gradually rest at the volume you've set it to for your alarm, which is very nice. It charges your iPod while docked. Some of the bass was a bit forced and overmodulated the speakers, but a quick adjustment took care of that. I only wish it were made in America, but it's difficult to find electronics made in America anymore. I'm totally satisfied with the sound, function, ease of use and options.

I received mine last week after ordering through Amazon. It was shipped from J&R Music and was only shipped in a plastic bag rather than a protective external box. There were a few dings on the box but the item seemed intact.

The clock has a very solid feel and a warm full sound. The options for its function are very adequate. The brightness of the image can easily be adjusted. The cool factor is much enhanced by adjustment made by turning the round metal face ring. It has a solid feel and clicks with each fraction of a turn. I quickly set 4 radio stations just to see how it works and discovered with great pleasure that changing stations is instantly accomplished by just turning the ring one click. That may not sound like much but it really is a GREAT feature.

I haven't tried it with my ipod yet but expect it to be just as impressive.

Finally replacing my 20 year old "Dream Machine".

USE:

Every aspect of the design of this device was extremely well thought out. Every task is exactly as easy or difficult as it should be. The buttons to change the time are less convenient so that the time cannot be reset accidently. Setting individual alarms and changing them quickly (and with the rooms lights off) is absolutely easy when awake but more difficult when groggy.

The clock face is very easy to read but not bright enough to be disturbing. The time numbers are large enough to be read from across the room, though in a room with a lot of daytime glare, this may be more difficult to do. Again, I think the legibility is exactly what it should be for an item placed next to the bed.

The options for the two alarms are wonderful and include a volume (independent of the playing volume as well as of the other alarm) as well as choice of sound source. Changing a time setting takes only a few seconds. Alarm times (if alarms are active for the day) are displayed on the face of the clock, so there is no fumbling to find out if the alarm is set or for what time.

The snooze alarm is unique. It appears to be vibration oriented and the clock is snoozed by slapping, bumping or smacking the clock anywhere on the clock body. It works wonderfully as a snooze and is the same method used to mute the device when used to play music or sounds. (During setup, I kept muting the sound accidently before I understood what was happening.) A simple tap unmutes the device again. Pretty nice feature.

SETUP:

I thought the controls for the clock looked a bit daunting at first, so I originally just plugged it in to make sure it work. Just fiddling with it with no reference to the instructions, I set every option on it within 15 minutes, I kid you not. For almost any feature, once you begin to set things, the clock displays a menu of what to do next and how to change options. Most options are set by slightly rotating the large metal dial surrounding the clock face.

The backup batteries (in case of power out) do require a small screwdriver to access, but again, I feel this is an advantage as this protects the batteries from being accidently dislodged.

SOUND & APPEARANCE:

The look of this clock is FANTASTIC. It is a real wood veneer, is very heavy and has a general feel of quality. The look is somewhat retro, however it clearly has every modern convenience. With the hardiness of it's construction, I have even used this as a "portable" player during a commercial exhibition event. The sound was adequately loud and adjustable by small enough degrees to be able to control just the amount of sound.

For home audio use, the quality is as good as one could ever expect for such a compact device. The clock feet are a soft (but very firmly attached) rubber (likely to assist with the snooze/mute activiation). This helps isolate the radio and prevents it from causing any vibrations of the surface below it.

I've used the dock with both iPod and iPhone and both work splendidly. The docking seat could be more secure, but with the clock in a moderately protected location, I'm unconcerned with this.

The only item about the device that I would like to see different would be an upgrade to the materials used in the small control knobs on top. They are the only items made of plastic on the clock and they do feel more lightweight in comparison to the exceptional sturdy construction of this clock. Time will tell how they hold up.

RECOMMENDATION:

While expensive, the cost is well-justified. I'm thrilled with my purchase and plan on buying one for each place I stay regularly. If an alarm clock is an important item for you, you will not be disappointed with this selection.

This was the only battery powered clock with a backlit display that I could find. I wanted to be able to see the time in the middle of the night in my motorhome, when not hooked up to "shore power," and without having to fumble for a clock in the dark and then press a button to illuminate the display. The green backlight is pleasant and easy to view in the dark. As another review mentioned, the display is not so easy to read in the daytime, when the backlight automatically goes off. This is not a problem for me since I have many clocks easily seen during daylight hours. I am really pleased with this clock and the solution it provides for my RVing situation. I was also happy that the clock I received runs on 3AA batteries rather than 1 9volt.

I wanted an easy to use alarm clock that wouldn't cost very much, wouldn't keep losing time with power surges and wouldn't take up much space on my tiny bedside table. This works perfectly! I can pick it up in my hands to set it or turn it off and not worry about a cord catching on anything. It won't let me oversleep, it's easy to set and turn off... It even goes well with my bedroom set. I really like it and just hope it lasts a long time.

"Pleasantly surprised with the battery life" 2009-11-29

This radio is an excellent radio for the price. No, it is not a top-end emergency radio, but it should work rather well for anyone looking for a basic AM/FM/Weather radio with both a solar and hand-crank charging option. I purchased mine about a year ago and used it only occasionally for the first few months. Then I placed it on a shelf with limited light and there it sat for about six to eight months. About six weeks ago I dusted it off and it actually worked for about an hour or so with no hand-crank charging. Later that day I sat it in the front window where it would get plenty of direct sun light. A couple days later I picked it up from the window and have been using it a few hours each day since; some of those days it was used for more than six hours in the basement. I have not needed to crank it at all, but did crank charge it for about one minute total just while playing with it - for the record. Since then, I have been keeping it on the shelf out in the open where it is exposed to normal room daylight, no direct sunlight. The charging light does not light up in this setting, and I would not expect it to. I have occasionally taken it out on the front porch to sit a listen where there is direct sunlight, but only for about an hour or so each week. I really like the idea of not having to buy batteries, and the convenience of knowing I always have a charged radio.

The flashlight is minimal, but I would not expect more from an LED light source. I have my 6-D-Cell Mag light if I need a powerful (luxury) light source.

Tuning the radio is a bit sensitive and can be difficult to fine tune. I would consider this to be a SIGNIFICANT problem for an elderly person or anyone without the use of fine motor skills in their hands; but for me it is a minor hassle I am willing and able to deal with. I have considered getting the Eaton FR600 for its digital tuner. The reviews for that model suggest the battery life is pretty bad, so I have decided to wait for an improved model. For now, my FR160 is just fine. I would consider giving this 5-stars if the fine-tuning was much easier.

The USB charge does work, but know that it will not charge an iPhone 3Gs. This is more a problem/restriction of the iPhone 3Gs (a widely discussed complaint across the Internet for many-many generic charging devices) and is not because of the radio. Charging my old Samsung phone was not a problem.

The weather bands do pick up a signal, but to be absolutely honest, I have not used it much to provide any real opinion.

The hand-crank charger feels solid enough (I wouldn't abuse it) and tucks away securely when not used. I have found the manual crank-charger will provide about 25-30 minutes of radio time (at about 1/4 to 1/3 volume) for every minute of crank-charging. I average about 2 cranks per second or about 120 rotation per minute. Now I just count to 120 or so instead of watching the clock. This play-time per craink-time yeild has been very acceptable for me. After two minutes of crank-charging my hand does begins to tire a little, but just a little. If I leave the radio in a place with good direct sunlight when not using it, changing via the crank is never even needed.

In short, it works for what I want - a radio that that can be charged by sunlight or by hand-crank when absolutely necessary. If you want the construction and feature-set of a $100+ radio - buy a $100+ radio. But, for $30 (or less), I am pleased with the FR160.

Updated on 11/30: I took this on a camp out over the thanksgiving week and I was pretty impressed with it. The battery life via the crank worked great and lasted a long time. The light was very bright and usable. I gave it to my kids to use in their tent and they loved it. I upgraded the review from 3 to 4 stars as a result.

I bought this unit as it says it can charge USB compatible phones - clearly - today when you say a USB compatible phone you mean an iphone or a blackberry or a palm pre. I could NOT get this unit to charge the iphone 3gs at all. I try to crank it slow or fast but the iphone says its not compatible and the charging icon never shows up. Pretty disappointing. If you are buying this unit with a consideration to the phone charging, I would look elsewhere. Even if it did charge the iphone, it says in the manual that it would require 15 mins of cranking for a 1 minute phone call - ouch. Ok, I guess in an emergency thats better that nothing but still I could not get it to charge at all. I think you would be far better off when some rechargeable batteries and a charger that powers USB devices. Duracell makes a great one and it powers the iphone nicely.

I think I will just keep this in the car.

Pros:

Nice and small, really tiny actually. Easy to keep in your car, etc.

Radio quality was fine, its not meant to be a stereo.

Flash light was actually pretty bright. 3 LEDs on the front. They are more than usable.

Cranking the unit for about a minute powered the radio for easily 45 mins or longer.

Solid, rugged construction.

Cons:

Doesn't charge the iPhone 3gs - forget about using it for this. Bummer.

Radio tuner knob is very small and pretty hard to use to fine tune. It works, but would it have been that hard to make the knob bigger or less sensitive?

The manual says solar charging takes 8 hours in full sunlight for a 3 hours radio usage. Why have it at all & just save the cost? The crank is much easier & faster to use. I guess the solar is just a "gimmick" really.

I have an older, larger ETON radio. I was pleasantly suprised by this new, compact model. Yes, the tuning dial is compressed, but I was able to tune in the local PBS station after a bit of fiddling. That station is hard to get in my neighborhood without static; I had to buy an HD receiver to pull the signal in. This radio--though it's not HD--is static free. Better reception than my Freeplay wind up radio (though the sound on the Freeplay is a lot more natural.) And the sound--while by no means high fi--is very easy to listen to. Speech comes through very clearly. The winding handle feels solid. The rubberized coating of the radio is nice to hold. I haven't tried the solar cells yet, though my impression is you'd need very strong sun to run the rardio on it. Also: you can't run the radio on batteries or AC, but I suppose that's how they were able to make the thing so small.

Overall a good product. Flashlight is not the brightest but being able to charge it via handcrank makes it a great "kitchen drawer" emergency light and radio. The built in solar cell actually makes a case for keeping it on the windowsill so it will always be ready when you need it. Smaller than I originally imagined but in a good way. It's nice to use around the house knowing I'll never have to buy another battery... at least for this gadget.

This is a solid unit that works well with our iPod Touch but will not charge my iPhone 3GS unless you turn the crank at EXACTLY the right speed. This is something that I have only been able to do for a few seconds at a time which makes it useless for charging the phone.

I'd give it less than one star if I could. We received it as a gift, so I couldn't tell my friend this, but I can tell you.... the stations don't tune in well and the noise level is there. But the biggest issue is the volume, which is almost non-existent. You can't hear it, even when it's on the highest notch... you're in the shower, the water is loud, the radio should be louder! Conair does make some good products but the company really missed the boat on this one.

Upon opening, my son found the On/Off button broken. Figured I had nothing to lose so I opened it up and attempted to fix it, the switch assy was broken on the circuit board. After three attempts I threw it away since I only paid ten dollars for it, it wasn't worth the five dollars to return it. It would have failed anyway due to the cheap manufacturing. Don't buy this or any of the other colors it's offered in.

the only reservation i have is the directionality of the am antenna.if the radio is turned 90 degrees from facing the direction in which am reception is best,the am sound quality is ,in my case, poor to the point of not being able to understand.

that is a common problem which is accentuated here by having an am antenna inside the case whose orientation can't be changed.i wound several turns of flexible insulated wire into a larger rectangular shape and connected the two ends to the

exterior am antenna terminals and oriented it so that the am reception was best.it's better than it was.

I'm very pleased with the WR-2. The sole purpose for purchasing this product was to connect it to my PC to record several FM programs for later listening on my MP3 player. I've connected the WR-2 REC OUT socket on the rear of the unit to the linein input of my sound card. It is working quite well.

FM reception is excellent. The internal antenna is very good. I've connected an external dipole antenna (purchased separately) via a 300-ohm to 75-ohm matching transformer (also purchased separately). With the external antenna, FM reception is better than any other FM receiver I own.

My only complaint is that after an extended power outage (> 1 hour), the radio forgets the time and preset channels.

Note: I have no experience with the AM band.

The solar panel seems to be useless for recharging the battery. The proper cable for USB charging is not included. Turning the crank for 2-3 minutes will get you about 90 seconds of play time.

Works well on AA batteries but only for a day or so of standby on the weather band.

I purchased this radio to use during power outages. During the ice storm early 2009, we were without power for 8 days, and didn't even have a radio to use. I got this radio thinking that beyond the radio, being able to keep our phones/mp3 players charged would be wonderful.

I am sad to say that the USB charging function does NOT work with either of my devices. The devices only show that they're connected for a second, with my Sansa even showing less battery power than it really has, and shutting itself off.

I contacted Kaito support about this, and was told the following (and I QUOTE):

"It's an emergency radio only not substitution for charging your devices.

It's a good workout if you want to use the radio to charge these items but I would suggest to use the charging devices that came with your MP3 and phone until you find yourself in dyer need for the radio. Unless you want to crank the radio for six to eight hours to charge them daily???"

Don't count on this radio, or Kaito support.

Radios were advertised as all the things I was looking for, so I bought two- one for me and one as a gift for my stepson. I'm a Senior Development Engineer for a boutique computer manufacturer and am used to testing hardware, finding faults and fixes. Here's the brief lowdown of my bad experience with both radios and customer service:

1. The radios' solar charger barely charges the units at all. Very disappointed in the performance there.

2. The crank requires rapid turning for 2 minutes to get about a minute and a half of clear audio before the power dies out and the reception turns awful.

3. Advertised USB charging capability from PC. This is NOT TRUE!! The cable provided in each unit was MALE USB on one end only. It has adapters for many cell phone models, but none USB A or fullsize MALE USB for actually plugging into a PC or other USB powered port.

4. Contacted Customer Service via email #[...] with a "read receipt" and it was read on August 24. I received no response to my inquiry of the USB cable needing the other MALE end until I re-forwarded the email a month later and the responder answered (on 11/19)that I should check a switch in back that would allow the unit to charge. Of course! My cable is clearly incorrect as I clearly expressed, but it's the switch position that needs to be changed! Wrong Answer!

5. I wrote back explaining the situation AGAIN, and asked to have two USB cables sent to me (without the adapters as you can link TWO cables together with the barrel adapter to make the USB charging work). I requested the same $.50 USB cables that ship with units anyway so that each radio could have this workaround since the other is a gift. I WANT THE RADIO AS ADVERTISED! The rep suggested I go find and BUY cables that would make this the unit I bought twice and neither was AS ADVERTISED. I will not spend money to get what SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROVIDED AS STATED IN PRODUCT DESRIPTION TO MAKE THIS FUNCTION WORK as was stated in EVERY listing of this radio from multiple websites!

6. Rep asked me to give a 5 star review. After replying that I could not given this history, if I were to have the 50 cent cables sent to me ground ( it's a chritmas gift so no terrible rush) I could give them a 4 star review. It was then re-recommended to me that I buy cables for both radios anyway because they won't ship them to me.

So, I should spend additional money for cables that should have been sent to make this function as stated by the company. This is a ripoff and Kaito should take responsibility for this problem.

"Good But Overpriced, Lacks Bass" 2009-10-16

The title basically says it all in a nutshell.

I actually got this item on sale at Sears for about $25 but truly didn't pay anything for it as I purchased it with a gift card that had been given to me. But I would have paid $25 for this and actually was salivating at finding a dock that didn't cost an arm and a leg, for a change, from a namebrand company. I had not bought a dock before, despite eyeing many over the past year or so, because not only did they seem costly but, from reading descriptions on Amazon, they seemed generally to lack bass or otherwise lacked in the sound quality department. But for the price, I decided to take a chance on that, especially given this was from Sony.

That said, I would not pay too much more than what I paid for this--$50 probably would have been the most. It has many, many great features. I like that it has audio line-in, even coming with an audio cable. This allows you to hook the dock up to pretty much anything that has a headphone jack and play it through the dock's speakers. So if you don't have an iPod--say you have a Zune or Sansa--or you want to play your TV or computer through these speakers, absolutely no problem. I have tried it both with my TV and my laptop--I also do have a Zune--and it works just fine. This expands the usage of this dock, which makes it worth more money than what I paid for it. It also plays FM AND AM Radio, which is excellent, and you can preset five stations on the dock. Also, having a wireless remote goes without saying as far as how great that is. And no issues charging the iPod with this or getting too hot on the dock as the iPod Touch seems to do when you have it charging/are using it while its hooked up to the computer. I also have ZERO problems using wifi for music applications on the Touch when its on the dock--no drops/freezes/stops at all--unlike when I'm using the Touch for music applications normally. The stations play pretty fluidly, which I love--I can play a radio station on an application for hours and hours with no problems.

The problems:

-You can't do half the things you'd need to do with just the remote, especially if you have an iPod Touch. To do things like presets or change the clock settings, you have to get up and physically do that on the the dock. To me, the remote is mainly good for volume and switching to the next song/station...somewhat for getting into your iPod's music menu (again, I can only speak to what's true for the Touch). With the Touch, you have to get up if you want to get to the main menu/applications and select things that way. But it will play your applications, i.e. say you have some music applications and you want to hear music from one of those through the dock. The dock also tends to pick up where you left off (not necessarily in the middle of the song, though) if you do venture away from the music on your iPod to play the radio or to play applications (if you have not taken the iPod off the dock), which is something that doesn't happen when you listen to music on your iPod Touch normally, and you don't have to get up to switch away from the applications back to the music on your iPod--you just press the play button on your remote, and that music automatically starts back up.

-There is this XPand feature that seems worthless. At best, you can't tell a difference when you use it in the quality of the music, and at worst it makes the quality of the music decrease/have less clarity. Why have this instead of a bass button?

-The music sounds very clear and enjoyable, but it sounds best the louder it is and to get any bass you have to select bass from your iPod's equalizer--which still doesn't totally help.

-The clock settings are a bit screwy. It is supposed to be able to tell what time it is without your setting it, but not necessarily have your exact time zone. But it had neither my time zone nor the correct time--it was about 15 minutes off on the time. I really like this dock, and the only thing about it that makes me unhappy when I use it is the lack of bass (I can understand, with this product being a little old, not working perfectly with the Touch/iPhone). But that is the only thing that takes away from an otherwise excellent product. I just wouldn't buy this for more than $50 unless I really needed/wanted a dock and this is the best I could find for the price.

Perfect wake-up machine. I put a strip of Dark removable window tint film over the display to darken it a bit. That took care of the brightness issue.

I am pleased with this attractive clock radio. I wanted a light-colored clock radio, and so many in the stores are black or silver. Because it is not very big, it does not take up a lot of space on my nightstand. Right now, I gave it 4 stars for ease of use, but as I get used to operating the 2 alarm systems, I know it will become second nature to me. I like the Human Wake System. It is nice to have the buzzer alarm slowly increase in volume instead of loudly blasting at the set time. As for the sound quality, I live in a rural area, so no radio has great reception which affects the sound, but it sounds fine, and I can listen to the news as I get dressed in the morning.

I read the description of the radio, including the measurements; even so, the radio is smaller than I expected. I thought I would be able to set everything up without the manual, but after a brief reading of the time and alarm settings, setting it was not difficult. Setting or changing the alarm will require numerous steps, but is not difficult. The display is pleasing and easily read from a distance or up close. It is not the usual green or blue. The sound is amazing for the size of the radio. I was a little disappointed at the large size of the electrical cord at the outlet, but considering the sound quality, oh well! I have heard the alarm or wake up to radio features yet, but that will probably be just fine considering the quality of the radio sound. I am pleased with the purchase. It is difficult to find an AM/FM clock radio without the Ipod. I also wanted a radio that was easy to change stations. I would like a remote but that is not to be expected at this price. I have previously used a Bose Wave radio with remote for my alarm, but its AM reception is not the quality of this radio. The FM reception is generally the same as the Bose except for my favorite station. Improving FM reception will require some adjustment of the antennae wire. This is an amazing little radio with excellent features and sound quality including reception for the price.

I really like this radio, which fits nicely on my night table. I use it mainly to listen to talk programs and the quality of the sound is fine for that.I do wish it picked up more stations clearly but the ones I listen to regularly come in well and at night I can pull in ones 500 miles away. Perhaps I'm easy to please as I've always had cheap radios and this one is much better. I like the sleek, low look and have found it easy to memorize which button does what so I can make adjustments in the dark.

I love this clock--it's a cute and creative design, and I particularly love that the lemon slice is functional. The Hello Kitty figure makes a great snooze button!

One thing I wish this clock had is a brighter nightlight--it's not quite bright enough to read by without straining your eyes. However, since most clocks don't even have lights at all, I don't consider it a significant drawback. It's good for finding things in the dark without disturbing roommates or partners.

The clock was simple to set up right out of the box, just follow instructions. Attractive and fun to watch as it keeps perfect time. But a clock should not make as much noise as this one does; a loud ticking on the stroke of 12, 3, 6, and 9 by the sweep second hand. I can even hear it from my bedroom adjacent to the living room where the clock resides. I still recommend it though, the quality seems to be far superior to the majority of inexpensive clocks available today.

While I had a few issues getting a signal with this, it's done yeoman duty ever since.

I sometimes sync up the clock on my PC to the atomic clock and compare them, they're usually dead on, although I'll occasionally catch them varying by half a second or so.

I'm gradually replacing all the clocks in my house with radio synchronized ones as I'm a mail server administrator and knowing the exact time helps with the job.

You won't beat the price on this one.

I bought this a few days ago. The stupid thing set itself just fine the first time, but the battery that came with it died within 2 days of its arrival. So I replaced the battery, and watched it re-set itself--TO THE WRONG TIME. And I don't mean just to the wrong time zone, I mean it set itself to the wrong minute and hour. It has maintained this wrong setting ever since then, and there's no way to manually adjust it.

I can't imagine what to do with it except throw it away...who would want a clock you can't set and isn't anything like at the real time?

Absolute waste of money.

I did a fair amount of research on these 'sunrise' alarm clocks. Found a great deal on this one and decided to take a leap of faith since it got very mixed reviews. After living with it for a few weeks I wholeheartedly recommend it, especially since it's half the price of anything else I found with these features. I love it's function of controlling your own lamp. So YOU get to pick the lamp and bulb to wake up to. I'm not sure what's so great about those orb-style ones, maybe they simulate a gradual increase of natural light better? I know you can buy 'natural light' bulbs for any lamp at probably a fraction of the cost of their replacement bulbs.

I have 2 main points about this thing. I was pretty excited to 'wake up gently' with the slow increase of light as opposed to a shocking sound where all you want to do is hit the snooze before you are conscious. This helps, but it's not a life-changing way of waking up I was hoping for. There have been a few mornings where I was comfortably awake 5 min before the sound alarm went off due to the light, but there have also been mornings where I perpetually hit the snooze. This was more due to me staying up too late. So I'm convinced this is an improved way to wake up, but it won't solve your problems if you don't manage the hours you give yourself to sleep!

The other point I have is about the negative reviews about the controls and buttons. I love the versatility of this thing. You can get it to do dang near anything! You can go to sleep with the 'sunset' option and listen to radio or nature sounds. You can wake up to light with or without sound and you have complete control over what sound and it's volume. I didn't read the manual prior to using it and was able to easily set it the first time and it behaved exactly as I expected. If you are the type of person who can't set your VCR clock, then maybe you need a simpler alarm clock with fewer buttons and therefore fewer options. But I love the versatility and have had NO trouble programming it! As far as 'fumbling in the dark' for the right button goes, yeah you'd have issues finding the right one since all the ones on the top are indistinguishable without directly looking at them. But the power and snooze buttons are right in front and very easy to hit in the dark, what more do you really need to mess with in the dark?

Yes, the display is a little bright, but I didn't think it was too bad. I've never had a projection of time on the ceiling before and really like that. The radio sounds good and has good reception with that separate antenna wire that's included.

Also, it is REALLY nice to be able to control your lap through the alarm clock. So now I can slide the lamp a little farther over and not have to reach to turn it off. No I'm not a lazy toad, it's just pleasant to not have to reach that lamp when I'm wound down for the day! This machine has a great set of features for the price and has worked flawlessly for me so far!

The major problem with this alarm clock that I just purchased is that it is too bright. So much so that even draping clothes in front of the alarm still does not mask the time display. I called Homedics and even the woman on the phone knows that it is too bright. She suggested using brake light tape and placing it over the face of the clock to dim the blue light. I hadn't heard of these types of alarm clocks until an Amazon gold box offered a different one a few months ago. The basic idea is to have a light start getting progessively stronger 15 or 30 minutes before you want to wake up. There are 2 main types of these units, one with a built-in light and ones like this one that work with your already existing light.

So far this one has worked pretty well. A couple of times the light did not go off, but this was most likely user error as by habit I turned the light off via the switch. Luckily this unit includes nature sounds and a radio and I personally choose light with nature sounds, so I have never not gotten waken. I would hesitate to use it just with the light.

Has it made a big difference? Am I brimming with more energy? No. It is not a bad way at all to wake up though. The nature sounds are high quality and perhaps in the winter when it is pitch black when I wake up it will have a more noticable effect.

Note that you only have two options for how long the light gets brigther, 15 or 30 minutes before your alarm set time. The sounds start playing 5 minutes before. So say you set the alarm clock for 6AM and 15 minutes. At 5:45 the light starts to turn on and gets brighter. At 5:55, the nature sounds/radio will start to play if you choose this option.

Among the many buttons on the unit you have 2 that control the light. Turn off and turn on. In order for the unit to wake you properly, you must turn the light it is connected to off via the alarm clock. The light needs to remain on the 'on' position. It should not start turning on until 15 or 30 minutes before the alarm time, or whenever you press the light on button on the unit. The unit does not keep track of the day of the week so no automatic off during the weekend. Small complaint. Overall decently priced unit to try out and see if 'light waking' makes a difference for you.

I like this product, and waking up to a sunrise is pretty cool. Some people seem to see this type of wake-up as a panacea; I don't think it is quite that great, but it is an improvement.

The alarm clock connects wirelessly to the lamp that it will turn on. I wasn't expecting that, but it is nice, because you can put the alarm clock across the room from the lamp if you want. It also means you need 2 plugs. The display is way too bright, and I don't understand why the designers would make the clock so bright and leave the buttons on top dark. They are impossible to see/use in the dark. In my case, I have 1 lamp in my room, which I used to have on a switch. I can't use it on a switch anymore because it is connected to the alarm clock, and can only be turned on/off via the buttons on the clock. I end up walking through my dark room to push the light button (hard to see in the dark).

I would strongly recommend planning out how you will use and place this alarm clock. I may end up rearranging the room to improve this issue, which is something I hadn't expected. Overall, this clock works well enough, is several times cheaper than similar options, and has a lot of extra options.

I overlooked the fact that it did not charge my iPod which is a big minus for me. I have to remove the iPod, charge it and then plug back in and place back on docking station. The switch is on the back side of the unit which is a litle awkward to reach and change, top or front switch would have been a better design. I'm regifting mine and getting one that CHARGES which docking my iPod and other MP3 player.

I love this tiny clock radio. I have a high-tone hearing loss and can't hear the beeps on most alarm clocks so I need a small clock radio for my nightstand. I had a Sony clock radio for a long time but it died and couldn't be replaced. I searched and searched for a small clock radio and finally found this one. It's great for a quick morning wake-up. I know some folks complain about the sound quality, but once you find a strong FM station, it works very well for a 5 minute wake-up call.

I purchased this radio during the Amazon sale, which is a very good price. I was not expecting much, but I am actually quite impressed with this unit, for the money. I wanted a small AM/FM shortwave, with alarm functions, for travel. The performance on AM and FM are the usual for a radio of this price class: plenty good enough for local stations. The shortwave portion is really good for an inexpensive radio. When I read reviews for a radio like this, it seems some people are expecting a YB400 instead of a cheap radio. I have a Grundig YB400, and it far outperforms the M400, but it was far more expensive as well. This unit packs well, performs well, and the travel alarm is as handy as a pocket on a shirt.

I gave it a 4 star rank for one reason alone, the tuning control is a bit fast for the SW bands. You have to get used to the fast travel, and learn to use your fingernail to tune slowly. Once you learn that, it works fine. I actually copied some code on 40 meters with this little rig, which surprised me as it does not have a BFO.

I recommend this unit highly, as it more than delivers value for the money.

Superb building quality, thin like the RAZR, rubberized - feel very good.

If you use the build-in speaker, it is all fine. Never need to pull out the antenna to get FM stations 40 miles away. But if you use headphones, the sound is a mess, your ears hurt. Yes I use my own hi-end headphones, so it is not them. The tuner is almost always overloaded, maybe due to headphone cords that might play as long antenna.

SW actually works and pulls in some stations, so does AM.

Alarm clock is nice, but no sleep timer, however the push power button is easy to turn it off or on.

Battery life is good, about 40 hours (drain 25 mA from two AAA).

If you just use the built-in speaker, highly recommended. Otherwise it is a beautiful piece of junk.

First, I bought the Mini GM400 ...sounded neat, had AM, FM, and shortwave. It looks and feels nice enough. I put batteries in it and put it on the seat of the car to take to work the next day, and when I later walked past the car, I could hear the radio playing?! As it turns out, it turns itself on if it's over 75 F automatically ...a defective radio. Grundig said "Not normal". Ok, I tried the AM, the main thing I would listen to. Noisy, buzzing, weak, no matter which orientation the radio was held in and no matter how close I was to the actual transmitter. And on shortwave? Nothing but noise and more noise. Sorry. This is a return for 2 reasons: defective and horrible performance. Tried upgrading to SolarLink ARCFR360, still manufactured by Eton, and ...same horrible performance. Well, FM worked on both radios and one weather channel worked OK. But AM? What garbage ...why print it on the box if you the quality is so poor that you cannot listen to it? That's false and misleading advertising! No more Eton or Grundig products for me, forever.

ONE STAR RATING!!! I've used this radio for a while now. Please buy something else. It drives me crazy. the drifting is getting worse and I have to retune the radio every 15 minutes or so. Buy the Sangean or a Kaito KA11. I did and now this radio is in a drawer. I will give it away at some point.

I bought this to carry to baseball games and it sure fits in a pocket well. The little speaker does a nice job, talk radio is tolerable and a ball game sounds OK as long as you are in a quiet place while listening. It's not great but for this size radio it's very acceptable. FM reception seems very good, AM is spotty at best, and SW I don't know enough about to inform so I'm not saying a word. A bass boost would have been a great option as well as a lock for the tuning (more on that in a moment).Now that I have said the most positive things I can about this radios lets move on to it's shortcomings.

The volume control is unguarded so when you drop this into your pocket or the supplied carrying case the volume goes to 11 and you either jump like an idiot or your ears are bleeding. Seriously the volume control is very easily rotated so it goes to zero while removing it from the case and all the way up while inserting back into the case.

This radio drifts, and I mean alot. You can tune in a strong AM station and just watch the digital tuning go up or down. Also as another reviewer wrote, if you hold it in the wrong place this will definately move your tuning point.

I wouldn't recommend this radio to a friend. It has a few good points, but the negatives really hold this radio back. I've thought about returning it but by the time I pay to ship it back to Amazon, it just isn't worth it. Sangean makes a good AM/FM pocket radio with a speaker....try that first. It's more expensive but you tend to get what you pay for. Another option is the CCrane SWP. I have one coming in after borrowing a pals. It isn't perfect but it's a much better product.

"New Experience in Radio" 2009-12-20

I have a very solid fast WIFI set up in my home. I decided to try this radio, although I was a bit skeptical about connectivity.

I received the radio quickly with Amazon's great service (I buy 70% of my needs from Amazon. I highly recommend Prime shipping. Saves a lot of money and hassle ).

The manual was well written and setup was easy. I used the suggested settings and all I had to do was enter the WIFI code. The main menu was a bit of confusing at first until I realised the menu was a horizontal one as are most choices.

The first thing you should do is to update the firmware. The instructions are on page 33/5.6. The latest version is R1.37. You download it from the Alurtek site. Load it on a dongle the .bin file should be on very top of dongle.. After update loads then reboot by turning power sw on back off and on..

Study the manual carefully and you should have no trouble. The clock and alarm was a bit confusing but once I caught on it worked ok. The sleep timer off time has to be set in the clock menu..

The play/selection menu takes a bit of getting used to. Be sure to start a favorite play list. The remote control works fine. To change stations, push left arrow and the favorites list pops up. Chose another and push OK and it will load.. I like Hawaiian music, so I listen to Hawaiian Rainbow for hours from Honolulu. Plus my favorite talk show is Fox in New York.

When you keep pushing the left arrow you will come to a Station List. This lists thousands of world wide stations in most languges. I like the Irish ones. Plus there is a New Station selection that updates the List.

I have some friends that were astounded when I selected German stations where they were born. They are getting a net radio.

There is a way you can add stations to your fav list from your computer. The instructions are easy to follow and it works..

The FM local radio works good. There is a way to play mp3 music from a usb dongle. Plus you can (WIFI) connect directly to your PC and play music. It works. Instructions are good. You may have to fiddle with permissions on your network. I use Vista and it was an easy network setup.

The sound quality is amazing for a small speaker. It must be a high tech speaker... Plus there are menus to "tune" the speaker to your music type..

If the remote quits working on the radio, just reboot radio by turning the power switch on the back off and on... This sometimes happens when you hit the wrong button on remote...

The off button on the remote puts the radio in sleep mode.

I read several complaints about the brightness on the screen. There is now a way to set the level and on time of the light. So should be no problem...

I love this little radio. There is no static, clear sound. Local radio is filled with noise.. Plus I don't have to waste resources on my PC to listen to stations...

As far as I can tell the USB internet Radio Jukebox dongle doesn't work on the radio. I can't get the dongle to work on my PC, so don't waste your money...

My first radio was a crystal radio I built in 1940. The range was about 50 miles. Now I have a radio that the range is the whole WORLD! Is that Amazing or what!!!

Not a lot to add to the other reviews. The display actually has threee brightness settings by pressing the top left 'light' button of the remote BUT it goes from ouch bright to super bright to too bright. I put two layers of car window vinyl tint on the display and it is fine now. I added some stations that weren't on the vtune site with the help of 'help via email' as to how to add the correct url and it is very nice. I'm working on how to add a little battery pack to make it more portable around the house. It does communicate easily with my wap encrypted router and the music on my computer.

"Disappointing toy" 2009-12-22

This is just a toy and not even fun. It has very poor AM sensitivity and poor FM sensitivity. It is very difficult to tune because of the small tuning wheel and too fast "tune speed". The cellphone charging port is USB and useless for my Verizon LG phones.

The sound is acceptable. I can't comment on crank charge life or solar charging. The hand crank is a good idea (essential for this design) but as I stated above, the overall package is very disappointing.

The good points are size, flashlight and nice red color. But it is worthless for even motel camping and anyone seriously planning for emergencies should think again. $30 for batteries for your existing radios would be much better.

If my wife hadn't thrown away all the original packing materials and shipping container I would have returned this item to Amazon for a refund, but the effort to pack and ship is more than I want to fool with.

Good idea. Poor design.

I bought this clock to replace an older CD clock radio that had broken. The size is good--compact enough for a nightstand, unlike many CD clock radios--sound quality is OK, given the clock radio genre, and price is decent. It does have a battery back up.

However, the CD track for the alarm CANNOT be set. It is always track 1. Unfortunate, since i bought the clock to wake up to a particular song that is not track one. And it lacks a dimmer switch, so for those who like the room dark when sleeping it's distracting.

Am going to return it. A GE clock radio I had before this one was the same price range and had all of the features this one does plus programmable wake-up track and dimmer.

We bought this unit for the bathroom to help get us ready on time. However, the display is SO dim, it is almost unreadable in normal light, be it daylight or even electric lighting in the morning or evening. There is no way to adjust the brightness (or lack thereof). I had hoped that someone left a sticker on the "eye", but it must be under the lens, which is probably too dark so the display thinks it's always dark.

The box got thrown away before we realized that this was not adjustable...so in the trash it will go. More Chinese crap in the landfill. Another once proud American name down the tubes.

Based on the old, excellently performing Xbox S-controller with added bumpers in place of black/white buttons. Thankfully they dumped the large "Duke" controller altogether. This controller can turn on/off the 360 remotely, act as a remote, works on a PC, connects to a headset, etc... It rumbles -- the $600 PS3 doesn't. It connects FLAWLESSLY. Never fails to connect and the connection never drops, ever, even though it's wireless. Battery life is extremely LONG - you'll be able to use the thing forever without recharging. Attachements exist for charge & play, Accessories for quick charge. Options for regular or rechargable batteries.

Having an excellently designed controller is key.

Removing the white/black buttons, so your right hand can rest in a position with your left hand -- both wrapping around the "stalks" of the controller, was a good decision in my opinion. It might take some people some time to get used to the bumpers. They are placed in a location where you might have previously rested your right and left index fingers when not pulling the trigger.

3rd party wireless controllers for the original xbox SUCKED! The connection dropped, they would malfunction, or else worked okay but were not rechargable (Logitech). Everything about this 360 controller is right!

"Started 'freezing' after three and a half months" 2009-10-17

Unfortunately, my T612S has started freezing up after three and a half months. Without warning, it stops working. No buttons work and I have to unplug it, wait a while, then plug it in again to restart it. This has happened four times now. Then I have to spend a couple minutes re-programming the time, date, and alarm times. Because of this unpredictability, I can't rely on it as an alarm clock anymore. I'll be contacting Timex, but it's 17 days after my 90-day warranty ran out.

Before this problem of the clock 'seizing up,' I was enjoying it - good sound quality and good range of sound options for waking up. Drawbacks: no way to program the alarm clock to play any other track besides Track 1 of a CD for wakeup; the snooze function only works for 90 minutes and then turns off; no digital tuning of the radio.

I bought this clock because it has lots of great features: AM/FM clock radio, dimmable display, CD player, daylight-savings-time adjustment switch, etc. But the reality was one big disappointment after another. The worst disappointment was that the radio is difficult to tune accurately AND it doesn't hold the tuning! What good is a clock radio if you tune it to your favorite NPR station at bedtime, and by morning when the alarm comes on, it's drifted a few points up or down the dial and you wake up to static??? The other big disappointment: the lines that form the numerals are so thin that if you dim the display you can't read them from more than 2 feet away.

The final annoyance: by the time I got so fed up with the clock and packed it up to return it, the 90 day Timex warranty had expired. Grrr... I don't think that last complaint would have been a problem if this had come directly from Amazon, but the outside vendor, DB Roth, makes you return things to the manufacturer; they don't stand behind the things they sell.

In summary, my recommendation is AVOID THIS CLOCK!

Love the dimmable display (4 brightness levels) and the ability to wake to my favorite CD selections. Buttons on side of unit could be just a little larger, but don't pose any real problems as is. Dual alarm is great and easy to set with an 'audible' when you have succesfully 'set' the arlarm. Audio isn't great, but acceptable for a clock combo in this price range.

This is a great little quality clock. I like waking up to a CD or to the radio. It has two settings so you don't have to reset the alarm very often (I set mine to 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.). It's pretty easy to set; I can even do it in the dark. The only disappointing thing I found was, I can't read the numbers across the room. The outlet next to my bed has never worked, so I put the clock across the room on the dresser. I have to get closer to the clock to read the numbers. I've never had this problem with a dark background and light numbers. But I'd buy it again for the design and nice features.

No digital tuning, despite the description. A major issue for me is that you can only use cd and buzzer for alarm 1 and radio or nature sounds for alarm 2. Doesn't seem like a huge deal, unless you want two buzzers in the morning, or buzzer and cd. Will only wake to track 1 when cd is set. Auto-timeset and digital timing are available on the smaller model, but that one doesn't have the cd player (and maybe not the nature sounds but not sure about that.) Nice appearance and design, otherwise. I can't recommend this though, because there are better options without these particular quirky design flaws.

I use this at a desk all day at low volumes. It does not have an special reception to it as it is just as good as my Sony clock radio for the talk station I listen to.

I still dont know how to set presets...not as easy as you might think.

It is a nice radio though. It has good sound and it is pretty solid. It has stereo head phone jack and in all fairness the ability to add an antenna which I have not yet done.

Radios are all about sound and the Grundig 350 has very good warm tones that are easy to listen to all day long. This radio can do very well as a table radio which is how I use it. The sound is solid with no distortion even if driven to full volume. This radio is a keeper for the sound alone.

As far as Am/Sw reception goes the Gundig 350 does very well provided you use external antennas to pull in the signals. The new added frequency lock works well to stop the drifting this radio was so infamous for. The Fm reception is very good pulling in many stations on the built in whip antenna and holding them rock steady.

If you want SSB ,or better Am/Sw signal capture, a full sized proper Communications Receiver is a better choice. That said, for every day casual listening ,on all bands offered on the Grundig, it does a fine job that will entertain one and all. This radio does Am/Sw well enough I can take my time now to find a deal on a decent older Communications Receiver in the used market. For now (maybe longer????) I'll just enjoy the Grundig.

All the controls on the Grundig work as they are supposed to instead of just being dials/switches to look good. Reading the well written manual will help the new user to gain full benefit of just what this radio can really do. One point about this radio that is little understood is the analog tuning. Analog tuning gives the user a way to really control this radio in ways not possible with electronic tuning while holding down the cost to enable Grundig to put in other features that normally would cost more. More bang for the buck 'cause you do your own tuning. Oh yes, I prefer analog tuning because I can slide right onto a weak signal I couldn't with electronic tuned radios.

Can I recommend the Grundig 350DL? Yes, as long as the buyer understands this is a first rate "casual" radio and they will not be disappointed at all.

Follow up after external indoor antenna added........

WOW!! Talk about an improvement!! A simple $2.50 300ohm wire dipole that I bought at the hardware store worked magic on this radio. I just hung the dipole & clipped it to the radio's antenna and this little radios was able to reach waaaaaaaaaay out there with ease. There is still the imaging problem but that is to be expected. That said, now I can listen to lots of stations that were not there before !!!!

Overall good radio, right out of the box it picked up some pretty far away stations. Night time listening of course is better between 6 and 12 khz. Expect to hear mostly religous and latin america stations. The knobs are easy to use but are somewhat generic feeling, there is some play in all of them. The antenna broke on me today so be careful if you plan on moving the radio alot. It would help if it had memory keys due to the many sw stations there are to choose from. The audio quality is great on the stronger stations, am reception is not as great as i expected. Its definatly not a professional grade redio, but good for the price and good for beginners.

Using it for some local FM stations it did not appear to hold the frequency and drifts slightly thus requiring some periodic fine tuning adjustments. Also, the rear battery door is flimsy. I ended up placing some duct tape over it to hold it in place. This I should not have to do!!!

I returned my purchase to Bose for an exchange for one that doesn't have the same problem. I left empty-handed.

Turns out the problem is just mine. When the CD Changer is attached to the Wave CD player the system will only stop playing the CDs when you push "STOP" on the remote! Otherwise the CD or CDs will play endlessly. Or I can disconnect the CD Changer from the main CD Player for those times I want to just play one CD and have it stop when it's done.

I said to the tech on the phone and the salesperson in the store that $650.00 is a lot of money for a system that can't just play one, two or more CDs and stop when finished playing.

I guess they specialize in superb sound with limited focus on other features. Maybe they feel that the sound is so good that you will want to hear it non-stop!

So I will look for something less costly for the bedroom upstairs. I will wait for Bose to "fix" this "problem". It seems so basic.

After owning the Bose Wave System for a year and enjoying the streamlined, compact design coupled with of course the gorgeous rich sound....I was anticipating more of the same quality when coveting the Multi-Cd changer for a long time.

For my birthday I was excited to treat myself to purchasing one. However I was astonished to find that the random mode worked only within ONE cd at a time. This was a deal-breaker for me as that feature was pretty much the sole reason I wanted the benefit of having several CDs on hand. I was given the impression that the cd changer would allow for all the cds to be randomly sampled when playing. Also the mechanical noise was ridiculous when selecting one of the cds to play from the changer, it's a real loud and laborious sound that makes you sense the fragility of the system. Plus the CDs are not sucked in like on the Wave, you have to kind of really push it in.

Then the design when the wave system was mounted on top of this "elegant pedestal" was very awkward and clumsy looking, completely ruining the sleekness of the Wave design. So basically what this multi-cd changer ended up becoming was a VERY overpriced cd storage unit for me. Needless to say I promptly returned it and the friendly Bose associates looked a little sheepish for not being more familiar with the functions of the changer when I asked them specific questions earlier when purchasing this.

Frankly I think this CD changer sheds a bad light on Bose and actually makes you worry if the other products are as poorly designed! I would NOT recommend buying this, stick to your Wave and maybe they will put out a product worthy of their reputation. Until then I will just change the CD myself.

This thing is a complete JOKE! I bought it to boost the reception of my CCradio Plus weather band reception on the recommendation of a support tech at CC Crane. To my surprise, the reception actually got WORSE when this thing was clipped to the whip antenna than without it. I tried moving it around in every conceivable position and shape I could think of and it never improved the signal strength or the audio quality at all. As I said, it actually made both worse!

At least for my application, I would suggest you save your money. I am sure a $2.00 dipole would have done the same thing, since all this thing is is a dipole made out of RG56 cable!

Recently, I upgraded my home theater with a new "Integra" A/V processor(I.E. tuner/preamplifier) whose tuner has HD radio ability. So I programmed in all the local English language AM & FM stations. Unfortunately, with the thin piece of wire that "Integra" supplied(with the A/V Processor) as an antenna, I could only get a stable signal on one FM HD station. On all other FM stations, the tuner would drop in and out of HD radio, going back to the analogue version of the station. So I bought the C.Crane "FM Reflect" antenna, and it works perfectly, and I now have a perfect,stable signal on all local FM HD stations,,,,,,,and this is before I even properly attach the "FM Reflect" antenna to a wall(right now, I just have the "FM Reflect" antenna draped over my stack of audio components, with the antenna in an upside-down "U" shape). Probably, if I nail the antenna to a wall in one of the three suggested formations(I'll try shaping the antenna like the letter "T") it's possible that I could program my AM/FM tuner again, successfully receiving(and programming into my tuner) even more stations.(the "FM reflect antenna" has small holes in the two white plastic pieces at the two extreme ends of the antenna, where you can hammer nails through to attach the antenna to a wall). I had asked participants on an internet forum to recommend an indoor HD radio antenna, and several people recommended this one. The price is reasonable, and it does the job. I'm delighted. (I should note that I live in an area,South Florida, where the land is flat. I don't know how well the antenna would work in different terrain.)

Overall, this is a great clock radio. I especially like the fact that it has a connection for an mp3 player. There are so many clock radios with ipod docks but very few with the ability to utilize mp3 players.

Controls are straightforward for ease of use with many snooze/sleep options.

I like the built-in battery backup option too.

I just wish the sound quality was better. Any clock radio with the ability to play anything other than just the radio should have better quality sound.

The good:

1) Great feature set including: sleep, nap, dual alarms, adjustable snooze, digital tuning, auto daylight savings adjustment, aux in.

2) The current time and both alarm settings (on/off, time, and alarm type (radio,buzzer,...)) are shown at all times. Nice!

3) Its reasonably easy to use: a few key buttons, well placed, make normal tasks easy.

The bad:

1) I've had FM reception problems: the power cord is the FM antenna, so getting it (and the radio) positioned properly was a pain (and I ended out with the cord in an awkward location).

2) The display is black letters on a white background -- easy to read, but pretty bright even on its dimmest setting in the middle of the night.

Be warned:

1) "Automatic time set" means they preset the time at the factory. It does NOT set itself to the U.S. atomic clock.

2) "Automatic daylight savings time adjustment" has pre-programmed (and non-adjustable) start and end dates, so if they ever change DST days again the feature won't work.

All-in-all, I'm pleased, but not ecstatic, about the purchase. My only real issue is the bright display.

The Sony ICF-705 radio alarm clock has many pros and cons. Because I am picky about my alarm cocks it has many cons.

Cons:

* For starters: The display light is rather bright. It has two adjustable settings and both are bright. The brightest lights up the room like a flash light and the dimmest setting acts like a child's night light. If you're like me and need a dark room to sleep, this is a big disadvantage.

* The buttons are tightly packed together. This causes difficulty when wanting to use the nap or to figure out how to use a setting. Most alarm clocks are easy to set this one took me a while to figure out.

* If your like me and have very sensitive hearing, the radio lets out a constant static sound. It's never quiet. At night this causes me difficulty to sleep.

* The radio signal is weak. It operates on a weak analog signal that can barely pick up the local stations. The tuner needs to be set exactly to the strongest station. It will not find the strongest station for you.

* This alarm clock is built for the digital area of music and comes with a cord to plug into specific digital devices. If you don't have one that will work with it, you are stuck to the radio.

Pros:

* Sony alarm clocks are built well. This specific model could have been built better. If you did not get a defective one this will last you a long time.

* Internal memory. The nice thing about this model is it has internal memory to remember your settings if the power goes out. Over the year I had it I have never had to reset the radio when the power goes out.

* Two alarm clock settings. This alarm clock is built with two alarm settings. If your like me and wake up at different times during the week, you're not constantly changing the alarm time. You just swap between the two alarms.

* Most alarm clocks these days don't come with a `+' or `-` button for setting the time. Most are only built with a `+'. This one allows you to incrementally scroll up or down through the hours or minutes. Instead of going around the entire clock.

* The size of this alarm clock is rather nice. It is very difficult finding one that's not the size of a book on your night stand. This is a very small and light weight alarm clock.

Over All:

I personally did not care for this alarm clock. I usually like Sony's products but I have to say they went pretty cheap on this alarm clock. I would highly not recommend this model to people.

This is a great clock radio for the price. Display is easy to see at night, although some might feel the backlight is a little too bright, even on the reduced setting. I did not find it a problem at all. All settings easy to use, handy that it includes the cable to plug in your MP3 player, not many at this price would have that feature. Clock automatically adjusts for daylight savings time, although it's true it doesn't do it with a radio signal, it is programmed into the clock. I have a clock that automatically adjusts with a radio signal, and found them not very reliable, it always depends on how good the radio signal is in your particular area or home, sometimes not finding a signal. I actually prefer the way Sony made this programmed in, although if they ever decide to change the days of daylight savings time, you would then have to adjust this clock manually. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase, does everything as expected and a great price.

I was looking for a small radio with good AM and FM reception for use during exercise at the gym. This unit does the trick. I can't imagine it being any smaller and still have decent AM reception. I've also found the mono lock feature to be good to prevent signal wandering as I move around the indoor gymnasium. The only negative I found was the fit of the included earphones. However, I had another set from another unit that plugged in and work great with it. Also, it would be nice if it came with a belt clip, but I've worked around that.

My old unit was a Sony Walkman, about 25 years old. It still works OK, but is comparatively difficult to tune and hold tuning. The digital tuning of the DT-120 is far superior and overall a big step forward. I'm very pleased with it.

Exercise routines are so much easier and the time passes much faster when you have music or good talk radio to occupy your mind.

I just got the radio and my first impression is very good overall. The only negative observations, the battery door appears a bit flimsy as does the headphone jack, but I guess I'll see long term.

I go through a lot of radios, using them while working in the yard or at the gym. I'm lucky to get 9 months out of a radio and I can live with that at $40 or less. Note the headphone jack is often the weak link. The Panasonic SW-50 has been my favorite for some time now, I have had four of these, but my fourth is now dead and sadly they have stopped making it. The SW-50 was 'fairly' durable. The last SW-50's were for sale on Amazon at the gouging price of $90 a short time ago. (not paying that) I wish I bought a dozen when they were $25 ish. After some research I decided to try the Sangean DT-120...it's very good so far. Note I also like the Sony digital radio of this type, I have the older model. From my experience the Sony is the most durable of the this type, but with that...it does have some bulk to it (it's thick), it's just to bulky for a pocket.

I am a letter carrier for the post-office and my pocket radio was my constant companion. In this age of MP3 players and

I-pods, it would seem that the AM /FM pocket radio had become extinct. No electronics store, even in New York City could offer a reasonable replacement for my worn out AIWA CR-LD100. I thought my radio days on the route were over. In desperation I searched the web and came upon the SANGEAN DT-120. If you are looking for a pocket sized, lite-weight radio that offers outstanding reception when you are on the move, then this is it. Only slightly bigger than the AIWA but not bulky at all. The reception is outstanding and there is plenty of volumn. With 5 preset buttons for 2 FM bands and 1 AM, you get 15 presets. The controls are not complicated at all. The on/off button is at the top, on the edge, and the volume toggle is directly below it(maybe a little too close to the on/off). On the front face, 4 buttons control the band selector, x-tra bass, and manual tuning. The digital display is plenty big and highly visible. Across the top edge are the TINY and close set, preset buttons. You can easily cover two of them with one finger tip, so you need a light touch. Its the only feature that is problematic for me, but in no way is it a deal breaker. The AM receiver is quite sensitive and easily pulls in distant stations, especially at night. Which is perfect if you like to search for sporting events from local stations in far away cities. The FM stereo is superb, loud ,clear, with lots of seperation. The sound quality of the ear buds is excellent, but because I walk all day I needed to replace them with the type that hook around my ears. I use this radio all day sometimes 10 hours a day, and the battery lasts about a week and a half. I never thought I would find a radio as good as my AIWA, but the Sangean DT-120 does the job for me.

The radio (apart from the LCD) is attractive and the reception is good. I bought it to replace a radio that had problems receiving the local NPR station; the Sangean radio gets excellent reception at the same location without an external aerial. The sound is good, although I find it is rather 'boomy' with the spoken word unless the base tone is set way down.

The real disappointment is the primitive LCD display. A major reason to have RDS (Radio Station Data) is to be able to read information on the station and music you are listening to. However, the low resolution LCD on the Sangean radio means you can only read eight letters or numbers at a time. So usually the words are split and reading the information is very taxing as you have to remember the parts of the words and reassemble them mentally. [.... EARLY MO ..... ORNING ....ALLCLASS .... ICAL FM ....]. I assume that the signal from the radio station would allow one to read whole phrases if the LCD resolution were high enough.

Also, the design of the LCD information screen is clunky and unattractive.

A final criticism is that you cannot see the time and the station data at the same time; surely it would be possible to combine them.

The overall impression from the LCD is that this is old technology.

I've always wanted to wake up to a good sounding clock radio.

After reading a number of reviews on a number of radios I settled on this one mostly because of past, favorable experiences with Sangean.

The WR2 not only sounds great but looks the part.

My only complaint is the overly complicated procedure just turning the clock radio function on. It can be learned however.

It looks like I'm not the only one complaining about it either. (Sangean. Are you listening?)

Otherwise a good product and good service from Amazon again.

Good sound for a night table clock radio. Very good at picking up and holding all signals. Easy to set once you understand the instructions. Attractive design but control buttons placed too close together and not efficiently located. Clock impossible to see when radio is off with or without glasses.

I thought it would be interesting to have an HD radio. I live in the Washington DC area with quite a few HD stations.

After living with this radio for two months, I would not buy this as a night table clock radio. I want a clock radio with an alarm system that has an on-off button and one I can push in the dark by feel. This one has to be reset each day. Impossible to set or use unless you have the room lights on.

At this price, you could buy a very good clock radio with every feature and a clock I could see in the middle of the night.

I was amazed by this radio. The HD thing is flakey depending on your area, and it certainly is in mine. While FM HD comes in perfectly in my hard to reach electronic filled office, the AM is spotty. I live in Colorado Springs, and a station there I can't get a solid lock on, but I can pick up one in HD from denver.

But that's not what impressed me. The radio is indeed small, about the size of a thick book. It's sleek in design, and easy as heck to operate. The display is crisp and extremely clear. The two lights, stereo and Digital are a huge help in tuning. But what makes this thing stand out is that there is a Signal Meter built into the thing (just flip the enter switch a few times, you'll see it). This is a huge help trying to put an antenna somewhere to get a good spot.

The speakers are nice, the sound is great. It amazed my kids. We would be listening to the normal FM, when suddenly it kicked over into HD and everyone in the room said "wow". Then the kids were all over the fact you could see the song playing, who sung it, the album titles, and all. Well to suffice, they were sold. And so will you.

Their site recommends an external AM antenna if you want. They suggest the Terk AM antenna, but aftetr some looking I decided upon the Kaito AN-200 Tunable Passive AM Antenna for around $35.

There are a few con's. First it doesn't take batteries. The power cable is bulky (probably for shielding purposes and I say I really appreciate that). The alarm clock doesn't have a battery back-up for power outages, and when you unplug the thing it forgets your presets and the time of day immediately.

Even with all those, the nice display, the compact form form factor, the signal strength meter, and the fact that it doesn't have anything that a security minded office guard would object to is a sure sell for my computer geek filled world. You will love this radio even if you don't get HD radio in your area.

The only thing that I do not like about it is that you have to use the plug-in power source. If the radio had a battery hook up I would have given it 5 stars. I bought this clock as a birthday gift for my visually-impaired Mom. She loves it! She says that the numbers are nice and large for her to see without her glasses at night. The clock practically lights up the room. The only down side to this item is that there is no brightness control which really isn't a problem for my Mother, but may be for someone else. It also doesn't have a volume control for the alarm but my Mom says the alarm isn't so loud it'll scare you to death! :-) She loves the feature that allows the clock to set itself when plugged in and set to the proper time zone. So I definitely recommend this clock to anyone who can't really see their clock at night.

This toy is used by my twin sons (age 7). They are very distructive with most of their toys. However, we've advised them how FRAGILE this toy is and it has managed to hold up so far. The durability of this flyer seems pretty good!

The charge time is minimal and the wear time of the battery is perfect so they don't get bored.

You need a lot of space to fly indoors. It's larger than some of the other flyers.

Our kids love it and advised the STAR markings in this review!

I find the flapping wings that work intriguing. But I find it difficult to control. Directions say don't let it climb steeply because it may stall and fall. But it WANTS to climb steeply. Mine spends a lot of time going to the ground, so I have to pick it up to start it again.

It doesn't have enough space in my 20 ft by 12 foot living room with 8 ft high ceiling, and a hanging light in the middle of the ceiling. More height is required. I fly it out doors when the air is really calm.

"I Love Atomic Clocks" 2009-12-12

I've had this radio for awhile now.

The atomic clock works perfectly.

Once you get this radio programmed there is very little more you have to do. It just runs day in day out with out any trouble. If power goes out it retains its memory so you don't have to reprogram it.

Reprogramming is not that hard but I do have to refer to the manual every time because it is not that intuitive. Plus, I rarely have to reprogram the radio so I forget how to do it!

The only thing I do not like is that the display is small, but I leave it on my bed stand so it is not that far away for me to see.

The sound quality is good and the digital tuning makes finding your stations a snap.

I like that the alarm function is programmable daily so I don't have to turn anything on or off over the weekends.

I ditched my old clock radio since the off and snooze button were next to each other and I would frequently hit the wrong one. The sound on my old one was so annoying I just turned it off most mornings. The Sangean solved both those problems and is easier to read too. I thought the mannual could have been more clear, but I eventually figured out everything I wanted. For people that complained that the nap time was not adjustible they are wrong - it is easy to adjust. I had also read complaints that the backlight was too bright. This is true when it comes out of the box, but I adjsuted it down on the bottom of the clock and now I use the button on the face of the clock to switch from day to night brightness. When I first plugged it in I thought the atomic time feature was not working so I set the time by hand. We just had a time change and the clock set itself without difficulty so I think I did not give it enough time the first try.

I just received my RCR-22 and haven't even plugged it in yet. It is advertised as an atomic clock radio but is it really? In looking at the manual and the box, I see nothing about "atomic clock." It has a button to set to DST and then you can set it back to standard time. A true atomic clock would do this automatically.

Did I order the wrong clock? If so, I will return it and get a real atomic clock. Can someone who owns one help me on this?

""Humane Waking System" is Annoying Waking System" 2009-10-04

I purchased this clock because I was hoping the "Humane Waking System" would give a gradual alarm. Something like a beep or two, followed by at least 15 seconds of silence, then slowly adding more volume and beeping. I used it one morning. It started with a few beeps, then just a few seconds later added more, and more and more. It was not much better than a typical jarring alarm clock. You get a few seconds to respond before it gets nuclear.

The other thing that displeased me was all the extra wires out the back. Three of them. There is the power cord, the antenna cord, then a cord for the atomic sensor. You can attach the sensor to the back but there is no "cord management" if you don't want to remove the sensor from the back. You can keep it in the cord tie and let it hang down in the back if you want but I would rather not have an extra cord in the back in a tie. Same with the other (AM/FM) antenna cord. Another reviewer here posted some good pictures of all three cords stretched out so if that works for you, don't worry about that feature.

Lastly, I just did not like the display. It is blue LCD with white (non-blue) to show the different icons and times. You can adjust the light level. You can view the display on the pictures here and it might not be a problem for you. I found it a bit cheap looking but that is a personal observation I guess.

Bottom line is the Annoying Waking System. Why can't someone sell an alarm that gives a few beeps and chills for a bit so people can know they are getting up and have a minute or two to think about it before the clock getting all loud and nasty?

If that feature does not matter to you, then this alarm might work for you. I was looking for a better engineered product because of that touted feature so this is going back. I really do not return many items. Annoying Waking System was not worth the price of this unit.

"Bad design Good sound" 2009-12-15

This is my second iHome, the first was a single dock that worked for about 6 months and then the volume and tuner knobs stopped working. Luckily we saved the remote or this would be in the trash. My new, 2 month old, iHome (dual dock) is still working, but two of the lit buttons do not light anymore (see the importance of this in next paragraph). Both units have decent sound quality and options. There are multiple alarms which are helpful.

As far as the design of the dual dock iHome goes, I wish iHome would figure out a few things. For one, the buttons are all flush with the body, so it is impossible to set, reset etc, the alarm without turning the lights on or upping the light control on the iHome (since the lit buttons aren't lighting anymore, bedroom lights must come on). Oh yeah that - when you press the snooze bar, the iHome lights toggle through the different brightness settings. This seems like a good idea, and it is totally necessary since even at the lowest setting it lights up my whole room. The bad part of this design is that to sleep, the iHome lights have to be off (unless you like a lit room) and because of that you can't read the time.

iHome must use the cheapest switches that they can find because both iHomes that I have had switch problems within a few months. they have the best sound for the price, as well as options. I wouldn't buy one without a waranty (include that in the purchase price for comparison).

This is exactly what I was looking for. The other dual dock speakers were not very attractive and the reviews weren't that great. I did a lot of research and decided to take the plunge with this speaker and am very glad I did.

In the past I never wanted an alarm clock speaker for my Ipod or Iphone because I do not like looking at the clock at night (its too bright and I can't sleep!) but my favorite feature on this unit is the snooze/dimmer button, which gives you different brightnesses for the screen, and also goes completely dark!

The sound is great for my bedroom (which is what I bought it for), I am sure for a larger room it would not be sufficient. All that said, I do not use the alarm function (because I use the one on my iphone already.)

Great speaker for the price and it looks really nice and streamline!

so i was primarily looking for an alarm clock/charger for my ipod touch 3g. i came across this and discovered it did just that and more: its dual dock! so it charges my nano 4g as well. WIN. this is my first ihome and i am thoroughly impressed. the unit doesnt look or feel cheap at all. the sound is incredible; my dad heard it and thought it was one of the smaller bose speakers. the remote control is about as thick as the touch, as wide as the nano, and weighs about the same as the nano. which means i might lose the control soon if i dont pick up a habit of leaving it in the same place over and over again. the price may be a bit steep, but the dual dock makes up for it since most households have more than one ipod.

"Too bright with loud hum" 2009-11-09

Not happy with quality or features of this unit. Had a previous Timex Nature Sounds unit with better quality on all fronts. Here are the differences that led to my disappointment:

- Display way too bright with no dimmer - I can read by the light it puts out

- Audible buzz or hum and bright red light when an alarm is in a "snoozed" mode

- Crude tuner and volume dials reminiscent of 70's technology with crackley sound when adjusting

- Single dial volume control for radio and CD player listening and alarm

- Dual alarms but one is buzzer only and the other is either sounds, radio, or CD

- No daylight savings time adjustment

- Same nature sounds tracks; would have preferred longer improved tracks or at least different tracks

- Broad and flat - much larger footprint than previous upright model.

You don't get the details on the box so there's no way to tell until you buy it, but I generally expect electronics products to improve with subsequent versions, not go backwards.

We have only been using this clock radio for two weeks, but so far we are very happy with it. The sound quality is extremely good (so far we have only used it for CDs and not the radio), and the numbers (for the time) are huge and easy to see in a dark room. We haven't used the nature sounds yet and I'm not sure we will. But for our cd, alarm clock, and time purposes this is a great item.

I purchased two of these for my boys a couple of years ago. After 2 months the first one stopped playing CD's and then 1 year later the second one stopped playing CD's as well. Quite a disappointment. We use them now for the aux-line for our mp3 players and are looking for different ones. Clock, radio, nautre sounds features are all fine.

"Very disappointed!" 2009-12-14

I too had done a lot of research on clock/radios, and had decided to give the Sangean a go. One of the main reasons I bought this clock was for the automatic time-setting features. However, my clock did not automatically set. When I tried to manually set the digital clock, the analog clock's hands kept spinning and spinning. I tried hitting the RESET button on the bottom of the clock (multiple times) and every time, the clock was not able to get the signal to be automatically set. Then, every time I manually set the digital clock, the analog clock's hands kept spinning and spinning. I am very disappointed, as I was really looking forward to waking up to the "Humane Waking System". On the plus side, the "radio" aspect of this clock radio worked quite well (good reception, good sound quality), but if the "clock" aspect of a clock/radio doesn't work, it basically defeats the purpose. I strongly urge other consumers to save their time/money and buy a different product!

Did a lot of on-line research and this seemed like a good product. I did see one review where the person said the analog hands continue to revolve and ended up sending the clock back. I chose to ignore that one, since all others seemed positive, figuring it was one fluke clock.

I shouldn't have!! When the clock arrived, followed the instructions (not well written, BTW)as precisely as I could. However could not get the clock to set by radio or manually. The hands just continued to turn and the radio never seemed to get a signal, even thought it sat next to an older clock (another mfgr)that updates daily.

Wrote to their help desk and never got a response. Sent second note and got response e-mail from Selwyn Wynstock, VP Marketing/Sales to call him and discuss my problem. When I called, he basically said "Yes, we've had those reports and have contacted the factory. Return your clock for replacement."

A few days later, got another e-mail from their help desk saying "Oh, it shouldn't do that, you must have a defective clock, return it with $8 for replacement."

The VP's comment tells me this is a known, on-going problem and they don't control the factory (contracted manufacture?). The Help dept. just doesn't get it.....wanting 8 bucks to replace a defective clock that never should have been shipped in the first place. Doesn't this firm have a QC program?

Returned the clock today to Amazon for credit. I'll find another manufacturer.

I have been looking for a clock radio that had the capability of the atomic clock so it shows the exact time all the time. Well thought i found it. The clock is very user freindly and easy to set. The radio has very good sound even with the small speaker. The hand on the analog clock is off alittle so it can be hard to tell exactly what time it is. Only disappointment is that the atomic part of it doesn't work well in my location. Doesn't always pick up a signal. The clock seems to stay within no more then 8 secs off that i have seen. One other thing is the lack of a backup battery which should have been in the design. We all know that the power will fail at sometime no matter where you live so without the backup battery you will not have the alarm go off if the power is off. Other then that i would recommend this product.

There really seems to be a Sangean fan club on Amazon, but I took this clock radio back to the store. For the price, it just has too many quirks that bothered me, such as -

- Too difficult to set alarms. The poorly written manual has more than seven steps just to set a radio alarm. I'm afraid I'd need to look for the manual whenever I wanted to change a setting.

- Acceptable sound quality, but nothing special.

- Flashing display. Although you can dim the display to an acceptable level for bedside use, it increases to maximum brightness whenever you touch a control. And since the RCR3 has both the analog clock and the digital display, maximum brightness means BRIGHT. Do you wake up in the middle of the night and want to listen to the radio? Get ready for maximum brightness. Want to change the station? Maximum brightness again. I couldn't deal with it.

- No battery backup.

About the only thing I liked about the Sangean was the automatic clock setting, which worked well.

"Logitech Could Be Better" 2009-11-18

It's a good alarm clock but there are flaws. The first flaw is the directions. They are not clear enough to operate the clock without a lot of trial and error. The buttons on top are too small to read clearly. There is a sensor that won't allow you to press a button once the alarm has sounded because the sensor turns on the snooze alarm. It's hard to figure out how to set up the iPod to come on to the music you want. Once you've figured out how everything works, it's a good clock, but you shouldn't have to work so hard to figure it all out.

I've had this unit for only about a week. I bought it mostly for the alarm clock and radio feature which so far works exactly as it is supposed to. The iPod dock works well also. The sound quality isn't great but not bad for a small unit. The motion sensor snooze alarm feature which some customers reported as not working right, works fine on mine so far. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

Was looking for something for my office to play music. The FM doesn't work, but that isn't the unit's fault, I'm in the center of a heavily shielded building. The music is very good, and the control of the iTouch is great. Intuitive, and just works. Love that it has audio input as well for other MP3 players and for my computer sound.

As with many of you, I had to look, and look and then look some more to find a docking station that supported the newest generation of IPhones. This one did the trick, with a few additional perks....

I use the Incipio Feather case on my IPhone, but also have the ifrogz case that's a bit thicker at the base. BOTH work without a dock converter/insert in this unit.

I also use the Sleepmaker waves app to fall asleep at night, and as long as you start it up manually first, it plays fine through this system.

Would be nice if the time display was a little larger for viewing across the room, but it works well enough that I'm happy.

I was sold on the design of this dock mainly because the ipods sits in a recessed dock and is somewhat protected. The LCD is very readable and isn't annoyingly bright at night. The biggest problem that I have is with the dock connector. It doesn't always seat properly when the correct dock is used. It will emit a high pitched squeal and/or not charge, but other functions work. Logitech has replaced it twice, but I still have similar problems. I don't trust it as an alarm either....

...a low-tech electric alarm clock. I bought this as a gift for my picky mother, who was distraught that her old bedside clock--a version similar to this one--died after many years faithful service. She wanted an electric clock (with a plug, not batteries) with a lighted dial and this one filled the bill. Simple, no frills..it tells the time and wakes you up. She also likes the silent operation (no ticking) and the soft-glow (kind of a pale orange) of the clock face. The first one I sent her didn't work, but Amazon replaced promptly with no issues.

This product was exactly as advertised. The only thing the description failed to mention was that the alarm setting hand is almost impossible to see with the white face (it's a pale yellow). Since we bought this for my legally-blind mother, we have to change the alarm time for her. As long as the alarm setting doesn't change, it's a great "traditional" analog alarm clock.
